RIP

We laid my mother-in-law to rest today. It was a comfort to see all the family, friends, fellow church members, and colleagues turn out for the visitation last night and the funeral this morning. She was an accomplished chemist when few women were in that field, a wife, a sister-in-law, a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a strong pro-life advocate who volunteered at the local crisis pregnancy center, an active member of her church, a rosary maker, an equestrian until she was 78, and spoiler of her beloved collies. She will be missed.

A beautiful and exceptional woman. Sorry for the loss. It is indeed the hill by which all of us, the lucky ones, anyway, travel.

My condolances to you, your husband and your family.

Here is the final verse in a poem my father had me memorize years ago:

Struck with palsy, sore and old,
Waiting at the Gates of Gold,
Said he with his dying breath,
“Life is done, but what is Death?”
Then, in answer to the king,
Fell a sunbeam on his ring,
    Showing by a heavenly ray,
    “Even this shall pass away.”

  6. My condolences. No one ever seems to have the decency to wait until we are done with them before they leave, do they? She sounds like quite the Lady.

  7. My condolences & prayers to you and your family.

  8. Condolences for you and yours.
