Inside the 1980s time capsule that is the Falklands War frigate HMS Plymouth – Telegraph

A great picture gallery looking inside a Cold War frigate. It’s interesting to see some of the differences in design philosophy between US and British warships of the era.

  1. I went aboard a County Class Destroyer when the Royal Navy pulled into Naples, Italy in ’73. It was an interesting tour. A Royal Navy QM could not talk about many of the things we USN QMs did. They were mainly helmsmen. The only time I was on the helm was at General Quarters. It was a nice ship. though. Nicer than anything I went aboard in our fleet until Nimitz.

It was strange to see the wheelhouse buried in the innards of the ship, and no wheel on the bridge.
