WASHINGTON CROSSING, N.J. (AP) — George Washington has made his annual Christmas Day ride across the Delaware River.

Washington\’s daring Christmas 1776 crossing of the river turned the tide of the Revolutionary War. The 61st reenactment of it was staged Wednesday.

  1. George Washington was the central figure that made the United States of America great, IMHO.

    He was not the best of generals, but had luck and perseverance. The British sharpshooter Captain Patrick Ferguson could have killed him at the Battle of Brandywine Creek, but did not. Whereas the Americans were not as honorbound or as squemish at Saratoga when Benedict Arnold ordered the British General Simon Fraser shot.

    Resigning his commision and not serving as King was admired by even King George III.
