A Hero’s Welcome

I’ve been annoyed by the trend of showing Superbowl commercials before the game. But here we are. It’s a thing. And one of the more popular ones I’ve seen is this one by Budweiser.

Here’s a bit more on how they made it happen.

Remind me to tell you the story of my homecoming from Desert Storm.

That LT looks like he’s 12 years old.

When my pal, Russ, came back from Afghanistan last year, the town of Sag Harbor, which had lost LCPL Jordan Haerter on 22 April 2008, held a parade and ceremony. We were able to attend Russ’ welcome home party and it was terrific. The shock that the small town experienced in 2008 led them to ensure that when Russ deployed, the whole town knew and cared. When he came home safe, everyone celebrated. While I’m sure Jordan appreciated the bridge, the Navy Cross and other things done in his honor, he probably smiled down from heaven the most when he saw how they treated Russ.
